700
years have passed since Eleanor's death at Harby ended a marriage regarded
as 'a perfect example of conjugal love'. For 3 years masons worked on
the 12 memorial crosses which marked her cortège
route from Lincoln to Westminster Abbey.
This book both celebrates Eleanor's life and recreates the winter journey
of her cortège.
Modern road equivalents and details of medieval remains are given, so
that the 21st. Century reader may follow this 13th. Century 'Queen's Way'
in reality as well as in imagination. |
