Mona
de Piro was an extraordinary woman who managed to escape a most difficult
and poverty stricken childhood to become a war-time naval Nurse, a Film
Extra and, eventually, the wife of a distinguished judge.
Her
early years were covered more fully in 'Mona: A Life' and the story
continues in 'Mona and Alan' which describes their life together in
subsequent years. Much of the time was spent at a remote canal-side
cottage at Bascote in Warwickshire. Their efforts to reclaim and restore
a derelict Lock keeper's Cottage and the author's love of Canals and
Narrowboats form the background to this romantic tale.
