With over 350 images, Alton's latest book captures a period in Birmingham's history when rebuilding of the old inner city districts was well under way. The city was a favourite with the Royal family, the Queen making several visits during the decade and photos show the loyal crowds of Brummies who turned out to see her.

The book also features many rare photographs of the city at work and play and is made complete with an array of nostalgic newspaper clippings.
