One
hundred years of publishing news and comments on Coventry and Warwickshire.
February 9th 1991 marked that historic landmark for the Coventry Evening
Telegraph.
The City of Coventry changed so much in the period. Motors, aircraft,
machine-tools came and with them workers and their families from the
four corners of the British Isles and from overseas. The city grew in
size in housing and shopping until a large part of it was devastated
in the Second World War. The Blitz and its effects have been chronicled
elsewhere but it led to a complete regeneration, of the city centre
in particular. Coventry's expansion continued until the 1980's which
unfortunately saw massive reductions of output and staff in companies
involved in the engineering industries.
The Coventry Evening Telegraph is proud of its achievements over the
100 years and is pleased to publish a pictorial record of the city and
a flavour of the newspapers we have produced to record events and happenings.
