Dear Nostalgic

It had proved to be absorbing to concentrate again on my home town in this, our ninth book. But I wonder if you'll experience the same emotions that I did as you go back into times that are seldom accurately remembered.

Don't expect to find reams of facts and figures: this book is not intended to be an in-depth history book but rather a series of random dips into the past. Possibly if something in it sparks off your imagination, it will point you in the direction of further research and I know, from personal experience, how enjoyable that can be.
