Now
designated as a future Conservation area, we take a look at how nature,
through the months, changes the face of the Dingles, a parkland bordering
the River Cole and Chinn Brook, situated just upstream from Moseley
Bog and Sarehole Mill, the inspirations for J.R.R. Tolkiens stories,
in Hall Green, Birmingham.
During 1999, the last year of the 20th century, birds, with songs and
antics, brighten up the dullest of winter mornings and herald the coming
of Spring, when fresh colourful flowers cover large areas of the riverbanks.
In Summer many species of Butterflies and Insects search for nectar
in the meadows on warm sunny afternoons. Early Autumn mists and mellow
sunshine, ripen the fruits and turn coppice areas of deciduous tree
leaves into colourful hues of yellow and gold. The Fox, Water Vole and
Tawny Owl, all creatures of the night venture out as the first frosts
and snow chill the Winter air and combine to make the Dingles a parkland
of natural beauty.
